Labels. Now, when you hear or read this word you can think of any possible term. Stickers, Kinds, Types, People, Society, Groups, Clubs...you name it. Now, Why do "we" label? and by "we" i mean Society. You go to the supermarket and you have all kinds of labels to tell you what is what. That is exactly what a label does, it orients, guides,or generally defines or tells you what is what. But, in this case, the "what is what" is determined by who? society. Therefore, people tend to put things in place so they can stay oriented or updated on what is what. It's not all to define, but it is also to know; like for example, that's why we have names and last-names, nicknames..etc. But today folks, you and me know that i'm not going to talk about supermarkets or names. It's about Society having these labels, and putting them on people's foreheads based on what they generally represent, what they look like, who they're friends with, what they talk about, what they like, who they like, where they live or work, or eat.. and so on. It's like society has this big dictionary of labels where everyone has a sticker on their forehead, or maybe a few. Let's start mentioning shall we?
-Fat, Obese, Big, Chubby, Unhealthy People
-Emos, gothics, Punk rockers, trashers, Moshers, diabolic or satanic people, Metal...
-Rednecks, Jocks, The religious fanatics or bible humpers, the populars, the Designated drivers, the burnouts, the alcoholics or anything that ends with -holics, the antisocial, the uncool, people who are always mad, the moody, the bitch, the ugly, the hot, the sexy, the smart, the beautiful, the clueless, the "blonde" or dumb people...
-the nerds, geeks, virgens, sluts, the promiscous, the rebels, the shy traumatized suicide people with issues, the bipolar, the obsesive compulsive people, the extremely social people, the life of the party, the party pooper, the magdalena crying people, the narsisisstic, the bulimic, vegetarians, vegans, ovolactovegetarians, the poets, the writers, the painters, the singers, the dancers, the musicians, the performers, the actors, the depressive people, the psychics and mediums, the ignorant, the mature
-the gays, faggots, butchs, dykes, femmes, butch-femmes,lesbians, transexuals, drags, transgender, crossdresser, the curious, the bisexual, the confused, the pansexuals, soft butchs, hard femmes, the actives, the passives, the masoquists, the sado-masoquists, the freaks, the nymphos, the asexuals, the people who have a parafilia or sexual disorder
-the sick people, poor people, rich people, frat guys, preppy guys, the hip-hoppers, the rappers, the hood, the ghetto, black fighting and robbing kind, white- scared of blacks kind, people who can't say the word "niggers", the stalkers, the psychos
-the Rastas, the surfers, the skaters, the Natty Dreads, the weirds, the odds, the crazy, the hippies, the drug addicts, the bums, the homeless, the charity givers, the tree club or nature freaks, girl scouts, the leaders, the artsy freaks, RPG freaks, game freaks, tech saavy, the wise, the superstitious, the failures, the drop-outs.........
And the list is much more longer than that. I'm pretty sure, some or most of you have identified yourselves or have labeled someone with one of the terms previously mentioned. I even felt bad while writing all those terms, not only because it's true that we all label, but, just like me, i know you have been unfairly and harshly label as well, at least once in your life. Just because a person looks a certain way, doesn't mean they are that way... I can talk about women without being gay or feminist, i can be overweight because of genes and not because i like to eat all day, i can be a gay man and also be respectful inside my job, school or society without looking at every man i see, i could be a teenager who made a mistake and get pregnant without having to be a "hoe", i can like to read and get good grades wtihout being a "geek" or even study 24-7.... Just because you listen to Rock, doesn't mean you're a Rocker, or just because you got skinny doesn't mean you're sick, bulimic or on depression. Man! People look around and they just label everyone, including their friends, including themselves... I think that nobody likes to be judged and labeled, everyone is unique and different. Even Identical twins aren't the same. We should all close the dictionary and get to know someone before automatically put the sticker on. Before you label, ask yourself: Do i really know this person? What i'm saying about this person, would it offend him-her? You can even think about how you'd feel if you were labeled or judged or called what you're about to call that person... We should end labels, because nobody is perfect and everybody deserves a chance to be themselves, to do what they feel like, to taste, say listen, hangout with...etc. I repeat, Everybody, is different. Stop the cliques, the clubs, the groups, because if you don't want to be labeled, don't label, if you don't want to be labeled, don't label or identify yourself with something just because it's written in the big book of "Society says.." start with yourself, and then we'll see about everybody else. So, in conclusion, like a Forum & Group i know (Liam Rawrd- creator) would say: "Ditch the Label"!
